Q: What age should the 'rookies' be?
A: The club is aimed at junior players from 5 - 17 years old or from grade 1 - 12.
Q: Is the club only for boys or for girls?
A: The club is open to 'rookies' of both genders and we aim to foster an inclusive environment focused on learning chess, rather than gender or any other differences.
Q: What are the benefits of chess training for children?
A: The most common benefits are:
- Develop and train strategic thinking
- Develop skills to depict scenarios mentally
- Devise plans and practice implementation in competions
- General mental capacity development
- Meet like minded people and form bonds for life
Q: Can students join at any point or just in the beginning of the term?
A: You are welcome to join at any point and pay the weekly fee until the start of the new term.
Q: What level of skill should a 'rookie' have ?
A: You can join from absolute beginner level through to advanced. There will be practice, materials and support offered at all levels.
Q: This is my first week, what shall I bring?
A: Ideally, children should come wearing comfortable clothes. They need not bring chess sets or clocks, as these are provided.
